Jayde Adams says she banned overused shots of Clifton suspension bridge while filming her sitcom Ruby Speaking.
The series, based on the comedian's own experience of working in a call centre in Bristol, helped launch ITV's new streaming service, ITVX last year.
She said other shows use the same landmarks so she "banned all of that" to showcase working class Bristol.
Ms Adams now hopes the success of the programme will lead to a second series being aired on ITV's main channel.
"Every single Bristol programme has College Green or the Suspension Bridge, like we only have a couple of landmarks," said Ms Adams, explaining her show was "cemented in south Bristol".
She told BBC Points West that as a production they "really pushed" to be able to do a call out for local people to become part of the cast.
The show had about 8,000 applicants, finally casting 20-year-old Dan Hiscox as security guard Craig.
"I didn't have any representation or anything. I saw this call out on social media," said Mr Hiscox.
"I just gave it my best shot."
"Everyone was great, but he nailed it," said Ms Adams, who starred in Strictly Come Dancing in 2022.
"He was brilliant and really felt like he was part of the family that we were creating."
Mr Hiscox said: "One of my dreams, it's a pretty pathetic dream, was to turn on my local village lights and I did it this year for Christmas. It was glorious."
Ms Adams said she hoped to get a second series, adding: "We've been told we can film it in Bristol."
